From a thermal perspective alone, castings are typically a poor selection relative to other fabrication technologies due to porosity. There are numerous casting techniques, and each gives a balance between manufacturing economy, thermal conductivity, and mechanical feature definition. The net 3-D features that a casting provides are a great advantage in the overall cost of the solution.
